About Phil Taylor
Phil Taylor is an English darts player widely regarded as the greatest to have ever played the sport. Before turning professional, he worked as a sheet metal worker and started out playing in his local pub league alongside his father at the age of 25.
His talent was obvious early on, and he quickly progressed through to Super League, catching the eye of five-time World Champion Eric Bristow. Bristow became his mentor during the early years of his career, and Taylor has often credited him with instilling the winning mentality that would come to define his success.
Taylor went on to win a record 16 World Championship titles along with countless other major honours, making him the most decorated player the sport has ever produced. Such was his self-belief that he once had a friend bet on him hitting a nine-dart finish, only to go on and do exactly that, turning a £35 stake into a £900 payout.
He retired from the PDC in 2018 and continued competing on the senior circuit until stepping away from competitive play altogether in 2025.
What Darts Does Phil Taylor Use?
Throughout his career, Phil Taylor used a wide variety of darts, gradually moving away from traditional straight barrel designs towards the short torpedo shape that became synonymous with his success. Paired with his famously short flights, this created one of the most distinctive setups ever seen in professional darts.
The darts most associated with Taylor's dominance are his Phase 5 Rosso darts. Their distinctive balance point and front-weighted design made them tricky for many players to master, but they helped Taylor achieve remarkable consistency across one of the most successful careers in the sport's history.
This barrel shape helps darts sit flatter in the board, letting players stack darts on top of one another for tighter grouping in the treble bed. Although Phil has now retired from competition, Target Darts continues to produce equipment inspired by his famous setup, giving players the chance to use gear based on one of the most successful configurations the sport has seen.

Why Choose Phil Taylor Darts?
Phil Taylor's darts are famous partly for how they sit in the board on impact. His signature torpedo barrels are shaped to sit flatter, making it easier to stack darts and group tightly in the treble bed.
The distinctive balance point of these barrels helps stop the dart diving downward after impact. Combined with Taylor's famously small flights, this produces one of the most recognisable setups in darts history.
Players who prefer a steeper angle of entry can adjust the setup with larger flights while still benefiting from the barrel's core characteristics. The current range includes his famous torpedo designs as well as more traditional straight barrel models, available in 90% tungsten, 80% tungsten, and brass versions.
With a range of barrel shapes, weights, and materials on offer, Phil Taylor darts remain a popular choice for players of every ability who want to try equipment inspired by one of the greatest to ever play the game.
